Intermediate Theatre Class A vs. B

Posted by Sarina Armstrong on Monday, August 24, 2015
This year we have some exciting changes to our theatre program! Starting this year, we will have TWO intermediate theatre class options!  Since this is something new - you may have a lot of questions including the difference between the two available theatre classes!
Hopefully this will help:

Intermediate Theatre Class Clarifications:

Hooray! You are taking an Intermediate theatre class this school year! With our growing interest for theatre we now have 2 amazing Intermediate Theatre classes this year! To help you know which Intermediate Theatre Class you have been scheduled for, check out the class descriptions:

INTERMEDIATE THEATRE A is a semester-long drama class dedicated entirely to improving your acting skills. Students will delve deeper into the skills learned in Beginning Theatre with projects such as dramatic duo scenes, scriptwriting, monologue performance and of course - improv! This theatre class will also produce a non-musical class play for an audience as their culminating project.

Requirements: Beginning Theatre Class & Instructor Approval

INTERMEDIATE THEATRE B/CHOIR 2B is a new year-long musical theatre class dedicated to improving your singing, dancing and acting skills. This class is co-taught by Mrs. Armstrong (Theatre) and Ms. Swallow (Choir) with the intention of producing our main-stage school musical as the culminating class project.

Requirements: Beginning Theatre Class & Instructor Selection. Also - students in this class will be expected to attend several after-school rehearsals and evening performances. A detailed calendar will be provided at the start of the school year. If there are any conflicts with the after school requirements - students will definitely need to switch to the Intermediate Theatre A class.

Questions?

If I am Intermediate Theatre A - does that mean I can’t be in the musical? In the future, the musical will be cast 100% from students in the Intermediate Theatre B class, but this year we will still have an open audition after school for any students not in the class that would still like to participate (so watch for audition announcements at the start of school!)! These students will rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays after school - just like normal!

What if I want to request a different class? In the future students will have the ability to audition for their choice in theatre class, however, this year the students have been selectively placed in their particular class based on their past involvement in theatre & choir classes. If you feel that you have been misplaced & would prefer to take the other Intermediate Theatre class please fill out our wait list form here (knowing that there are no guarantees) and we will see if a change is possible: http://goo.gl/forms/MO7MwSKrGt
